THE HISTORIC BUFFALO NICKEL
Mint Mark Collection
Collection includes:
1924 - No mint Mark
1926 - Philadelphia Mint
1935 - Denver Mint
1937 - San Francisco Mint
Distributed in 1997 including a certificate of authenticity from the American Historical Society
The certificate of authenticity attest to the fact that the coins in this collection are genuine United States Mint coinage.
In 1913 the United States Government commissioned James E. Fraser to design a new 5 cent piece. The bold design was very unusual fro coinage - a portrait of an Indian and a portrait of a bison (actually a resident of the New York Zoo). This is the only instance in which this combination appears in American Coinage.
Nickels are made of .750 copper and .250 Nickel and weighed 5 grams at the time of minting.
